  • How do I validate my railpass?

Validate your railpass when you arrive at the train station on your first day of rail travel. Proceed to a ticket window and present your railpass along with your passport. The attendant will stamp your pass, write in the beginning and ending validity dates, and record your passport number on your pass.

Do not make any marks on your rail pass prior to validation. If you board a train with an un-validated pass, the conductor will fine you.

How do I use a Flexipass?

A Flexipass contains one box for each purchased day of use. Flexipass holders must write the day's date of travel (in ink) on their pass in the appropriate box before boarding the first train of the day. Be sure to enter dates in the appropriate day/month/year format.

How do I use a Consecutive Day Pass?

Consecutive day pass-holders have virtually nothing left to do with their pass other than presenting the pass on the train.

I have a 1st class railpass. My companions have 2nd class railpasses. Can I sit with them?

Yes, you can all sit in 2nd class

Do I need to pay supplements and reservation fees with my railpass?

Most supplements are included with your railpasses. Reservation fees for trains requiring reservations are not included. Click here for a complete list of supplements and reservation fees

Where should I purchase supplements and reservations?

At any train station in Europe. Reservations can be purchased anywhere in Europe. Supplements often must be paid in the country that you will use them.

What bonuses are included with my railpass?

Click here for a complete list of bonuses that are included with your railpass.

Does the use of a bonus require the use of a Flexipass Day?

Bonuses for free transportation do require the use of a Flexipass day. Bonuses for discounted prices do not require the use of a Flexipass day.

When can I use the bonuses?

Use bonuses during the validity of your railpass. Consecutive Day pass holders can only use bonuses on the same days as rail travel is covered. Flexipass holders can use bonuses through the expiration of their pass. For example, a holder of a 10 day in 2 month Flexipass can use bonuses for 2 months from the day they validate their pass – regardless of whether any Flexipass days remain unused.

I am using a Flexipass on an overnight train. Must I use 2 Flexipass days to cover this train ride?

Flexipass holders may take advantage of the 7pm Rule and save a day of travel. With a Flexipass, if an overnight train leaves after 7:00 pm and arrives the next day (after 12:00 am), write in the next day's date in the appropriate box on your pass. Since the majority of train travel is taking place the next day, you will only be charged for one day, provided you didn't do any traveling before 7:00 pm. Otherwise, you will be using two travel days. If the train leaves before 7:00 pm, purchase a point-to-point ticket from the departure city to the first city that the train arrives after 7:00 pm. That way, you'll be able to take advantage of the Overnight Rule and save a travel day in the process.

Are trains to the airport covered?

Airport trains covered by railpasses are:

  • How many days make up a Railpass month?

A railpass month is a calendar month. If you validate a 1 month railpass on July 15, it is good through August 14.

    What is a Railpass Day?

A railpass day is midnight to midnight. See the special rule for overnight trains (above).

Can I use an erasable pen to increase the value of my Flexipass?

Tampering with the pass will result in a fine and/or confiscation. Furthermore, conductors have caught on to this trick and stamp your Flexipass for each date of travel. Their stamp is non-erasable.

    Are railpasses refundable?

In general, un-validated or railpasses stamped "not-used" by a rail representative are 85% refundable. After usage, most railpasses are non-refundable. Check with the company selling you the railpass before you purchase for their specific rules.

Can I use my pass on city subways, trolleys, and buses?

No – unless specifically mentioned on your railpass. Exceptions include Swiss Country passes. All passes cover S-Bahn and local commuter trains.

How do I travel to Prague, Czech Republic on a railpass?

Purchase a Prague Excursion pass in conjunction with your other railpasses. Or, purchase point-to-point tickets to cover any segment not covered by your railpass.

What if my train goes through a country not covered by my railpass?
